A charity helping people with terminal illness is about to benefit from a singing spectacular beamed via the internet from the Tyne Theatre and Opera House.
This year’s 2CC (2 Chosen Charities) Charity Show was unable to go ahead in its traditional physical format due to the current Covid-19 situation but thanks to streaming technology, the show will be aired live at 7pm on Sunday 16th August with viewers being asked to donate to the theatre’s Preservation Trust and the Marie Curie Hospice in Elswick.
The live stream event hosted by BBC Radio Newcastle’s Alfie Joey showcases a whole range of singing sensations including Channy, Abi Garrido, Graham, Danielle Brown and Britain’s Got Talent star Jamie Lee Harrison.
The event has come at a time when the Marie Curie is experiencing a severe drop in donations with coronavirus continuing to have a devastating effect on the charity’s fundraising and income, income that is relied upon to provide vital care for dying people and their loved ones.
Marie Curie Community Fundraiser Hayley Revell is looking forward to the event.
“As no one is able to visit the theatre and the event is on YouTube and Facebook Live, we are hoping that a lot of our patients at the Hospice and at home will be able to watch and enjoy the show. The money raised for Marie Curie will go towards expert care and support for patients and their families, every £20 raised can pay for an hour of nursing care.”
Many of Marie Curie’s fundraising events and campaigns have been cancelled or postponed due to COVID 19, massively reducing the amount of money the charity has been able to raise, but their Hospices and essential caring services in the community are continuing to operate, including those in the North East.
Audiences can tune in to the live stream on the Tyne Theatre’s Facebook page or YouTube channel at 7pm on Sunday 16th August. While encouraged to watch live, for those that miss it, the show will be available to re-watch until Friday 21st August.
The show is free to stream; however donations can be made here: https://bit.ly/LFTT2CC
This live stream event showcases some of the best vocal talent to come out of the North East and will be hosted by BBC Radio Newcastle’s very own Alfie Joey. Singing Sensations include; Abi Garrido, who graced our TV screens on The X Factor, as well as stages throughout the country, Graham, who has sang with some of the biggest names in the industry including Kirsty McColl, Aswad, Simple Minds, Paul Young and Richard Marx, the award-winning and highly talented Danielle Brown and Britain’s Got Talent star Jamie Lee Harrison, who has over 1500 gigs around the world under his belt. Closing the show will be UK pop songstress Channy, whose powerful vocals and energetic vibe has landed her some impressive support slots for artists such as Jess Glynne, Sigala, Olly Murs, Nathan Sykes, Scouting for Girls, Tulisa and many more.
In addition to the live performances, there will also be clips from previous 2CC shows featuring Collabro’s Matt Pagan, panto favourites Charlie Richmond and Lewis Denny & more.
All profits raised from donations will be split between the theatre’s Preservation Trust and the Marie Curie cancer care, in honour of 2CC co-founder Michael Parker, who passed away last year at the Elswick Hospice. The show will include two lovely messages from these charities, for whom all these fantastic artists are kindly giving their time and talent to help support.
