When a new candidate is presented with the Working Tools of an Entered Apprentice Freemason he is taught that perseverance is necessary to establish perfection. We’re not suggesting the biographies of our WW1 members are perfect but perseverance in our research has paid off  and we’ve found Bro William Lockhart’s service information.

Despite there being records for many William Lockhart’s, we’ve been able to conclusively identify him from his pension record, found by chance on an American military website, which in turn has led us to his Medal Roll, Medal Index Card and Silver War Badge Roll so we can put together a glimpse into his war service.

He enlisted on 2nd August 1917 and was assigned as a Pioneer, service number 321483, with the Royal Engineers. He was discharged on 21st August 1919 as being no longer physically fit for war service suffering from myalgia and DAH.

If you’d like to know more about Bro William’s time during the Great War and how myalgia and DAH can render a soldier unfit for war service please read his story here. You can also go to our WW1 Roll of Honour and scroll down and select his name.
