Masonic Gravestones
If you’ve ever strolled through your local cemetery or perhaps looked at the graveyard of a village church you may have noticed Masonic symbols on some of the older headstones. Mostly they show the square and compass but other symbols are used and are all to commemorate a life proudly lived as a Freemason.
The research into our founding members and ww1 heroes has taken us into our local cemeteries to photograph their headstones, some of which you can see in the biographies on this website, and discovered quite a few unrelated headstones with Masonic symbols.
We have now created a special page for the photos of these headstones. As far as we know they are not related to any of our members and we’ve not researched their history but they may be of interest. If you are a descendant or relative we would love to hear from you and include their story. Check out our new page which you can find here or go to “Miscellany” then “Masonic headstones”
If you’ve seen any Masonic headstones while walking through your local cemetery, or have an ancestor or relative who has a Masonic headstone and would like to see it here please send us a photo and let us know where it was taken and we’ll add it.
You can contact us by sending an email to W. Bro. Peter Walker email
