We are very pleased to announce we’ve completed the final short biography of our twelve founding members.

Two and a half years ago we published the first for Bro.  Lewis Forsyth Allan – our first Junior Warden, volunteer in the militia, Major with the Royal Garrison Artillery, service in the Boer War and WW1, politician, barrister-in-law and Mayor of Johannesburg.

The final biography is of Bro Charles Hamilton Pemberton a freemason and founding member of Lodge Temperance 2557. He was a signatory on the petition sent to United Grand Lodge of England requesting permission for the formation of Lodge Temperance. He was listed as being a master mason and subscribing member of Percy Lodge No 1427.

Bro Charles, originally from Gateshead, was our first Junior Warden and was installed in the chair of King Solomon in 1898, our fourth Master. He was the son in law of our first Master and for many years he worked as a gas account collector for the Gateshead and Newcastle Gas Company.

You can read his story here or go to History – Founding Members and select his name from the list.

Keep checking back for all the latest news and events for Lodge Temperance 2557.
