Bro William Newton
Bro William Newton was a Freemason and member of Lodge Temperance 2557.
At the Lodge Temperance meeting held on 15th December 1902 at the Central Masonic Hall, Pilgrim Street, Newcastle Upon Tyne, Bro William was proposed by Bro James Hope and seconded by Bro John Watson Balfour on behalf of Bro Nicholas Taylor as a fit and proper person to be made a Freemason.
He was a 30 year old clerk residing at 21, Dale Street, Newcastle upon Tyne. A successful ballot was held the following month on 19th January 1903 and he was initiated into the mysteries and privileges of Ancient Freemasonry at the same meeting. He was passed to the second or Fellowcraft degree on 11th May and raised to the sublime degree of Master Mason on 15th June 1903.
He was installed in the chair of King Solomon as Worshipful Master at Lodge Temperance 2557 in 1917. He was also a founding member and 1st Assistant Steward of Lodge Prudence 3424 which was consecrated on 30th March 1910 and a founder member of Lodge Justice No 4421 consecrated on 16th June 1922.
