Freemasonry is not about personal gain but about what you can do for others. At its heart, Freemasonry, is about charity and you can read how the Provincial Grand Lodge of Northumberland is giving away £300,000 to local charities in 2017 here.

Another way we help others is by donating and sponsoring local organisations which depend on groups like the Freemasons to help build their local community.

Several members of Lodge Temperance 2557 have found unique ways to help with sponsorship, donations and fund raising:

Some weeks ago Bro Steve Nelson’s company Calibre sponsored and joined with the North Tyneside Riders to assemble a cycling team to ride for Bright Red, a charity established to improve the lives and treatment of people in the north who are dealing with blood cancer.  “Team Calibre” consisting of 14 cyclists, including Bro Steve, took part in a team event called the big red ride from Seahouses to Newcastle. Their aim was to raise £500 for the charity but today the total stands at over £2000, an amazing success.  You can read more about this challenge here.

Proud Sponsors of Christmas at the Cathedral 2016

Some of the region’s best-known entertainment appeared at the fifth annual “Christmas at the Cathedral” Concert, held at St Nicholas Cathedral in December 2016 , which was in aid of The Sir Bobby Robson Foundation. The Sir Bobby Robson Foundation funds projects within the Newcastle upon Tyne Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust that directly benefit cancer patients from across North East England and Cumbria and which also contribute significantly to international research into the disease.

Lodge Temperance is proud that two of it’s members were key sponsors for this special event. Bro Dr Chris, of Layer 7 IT Security, our Senior Warden and Charity Steward  and Wbro Keith Newman of Highlights PR, our Chaplain, .

Four of our members are mentioned here and we are very proud that they are making a difference to their local communities. Keep up the good work!

Keep checking back as we have other members helping local organisations who we’ll feature shortly.
