We are very pleased to announce that we have just added another short biography of a founding member. Bro Hugh Morton was a freemason and founding member of Lodge Temperance 2557 and a signatory on the petition sent to United Grand Lodge of England requesting permission for the formation of Lodge Temperance. He was listed as being a master mason from Newcastle Upon Tyne Lodge no 24.
Bro Hugh was elected as a Councilor to Newcastle City Council in 1882, became a Magistrate in 1892 and then Alderman in 1904 serving on many committees including the Watch and Licensing Committees. He remained as a member of Newcastle City Council for 49 years and as a magistrate for 39 years. He was also Deputy Lieutenant for the County.
