A great new development on the Lodge Temperance 2557 website. We’ve added a new feature called “Miscellany” where we’ll be putting items of Masonic interest that may not be directly related Lodge Temperance.

Included in this new feature is the page on Masonic headstones that was originally under our “History“.

During a recent walk through All Saints cemetery, Newcastle in search of a family grave, we found a couple of headstones with the masonic square and compass symbol engraved on them. Of interest to supporters of Newcastle United Football Club maybe the headstone of Alexander Gardner who made 279 appearances as right half between 1899 and 1910, scoring 22 goals. Photos of them are now on this page and can be seen here.

There is also an interesting piece on the Earl of Durham’s Monument, commonly known as Penshaw Monument which you can read here.

If you’ve seen anything relating to Freemasonry while out and about, perhaps on a grave when walking through your local cemetery, or on a building in your local town or village and would like to see it on our website, please send us a photo and let us know where it was taken and we’ll add it.
